Volunteer Opportunities:
Can you spare a few hours per week or even a few hours per month? Do you enjoy elders and like sharing your time with others? Then consider becoming a volunteer with Chelsea Revere Winthrop Elder Services. Below are just a few examples of the many ways you can make a difference in an elder’s life.
Money Managers: The Money Management Program for Elders is part of a nationwide effort to assist older people who are at risk of losing their independence because they are unable to pay their rent, food and utility bills on time. As a trained volunteer, you will help organize mail, balance checkbooks, create budgets and write checks for the client’s signature.
Ombudsman: As a Long-Term Care Ombudsman Volunteer, you are trained and certified by the State of Massachusetts to provide support and advocate for the needs of residents in long-term care facilities such as nursing homes. Ombudsmen regularly visit and speak confidentially with residents; investigate complaints about quality of life and patient care issues; work to resolve complaints on behalf of residents; provide information to residents and protect their rights; and advocate for positive change in the long-term care system. As an Ombudsman you may have a chance to improve someone’s quality of life through a hands on approach and personal, one on one interaction. Ombudsmen visit the nursing homes in Chelsea, Revere and Winthrop.
